Chilako Black Arabians is centrally located
in beautiful British Columbia, Canada, in a city called Prince George.
The company began because of Clint's lifelong love of horses, a fascination
with the Arabian horse breed, and the allure of the black stallion.
In the summer of 1995 we had the opportunity to purchase Blacklordof
Cairo and bring him from Wisconsin, USA, to his new home. Blacklordof
Cairo and Clint have since built a special relationship.
About
us...
Chilako
Black Arabians is owned and operated by Clint and Severine Neitzel.
Clint
has loved horses his entire life. His Mom rode horses when she was first
pregnant with him. With the help of his Dad, he trained his first horse
to ride when he was only nine years old. As a youngster, Clint fell in
love with the Black Stallion, from the movies. When he was older, he just
had to have his own. And, of course, there is just nothing like the Arabian
stallion.
Today, Clint takes care of anything directly related to our horses,
from feeding to breeding. Clint can often be found reading about
various horse related subjects like training, breeding, nutrition,
and other health related areas. In March of 2000, he attended the
Hands-on Reproduction Workshop at the Equine Research Center in
Guelph, Ontario, where he learned about all aspects of breeding,
including artificial insemination.
Clint
loves to work with horses. In fact, being around a horse is a stress reliever
for him. He especially likes a challenge like working with problem
horses, or starting a horse. He trained our own stallion to ride when
he (the stallion) was nine years old. Granted, it wasn't much of a challenge
since Blacklordof Cairo is such a willing horse. Clint successfully worked
with a yearling filly that had gone wild and wouldn't let anyone near
without lashing out with hoofs and teeth.
Clint's wife, Severine, is also a country person, but with a different
background. When she was 11 years old, her family moved to a small
ranch outside of Prince George, from Switzerland. Although they
raised cattle and had horses for some time, Severine didn't understand
the fuss about horses until many years later when she met Blacklordof
Cairo. Now she's completely enamored with the Arabian breed.
Today,
Severine assists Clint when necessary, but usually she takes care of the
"computer end" of things, like correspondence, web site design and maintenance,
publishing of materials like our newsletter, magazine ads and articles,
web site content, and any required research related to these tasks.

About
Prince George...
Once
a fur trading fort, Prince George is located in north-central BC, at the
confluence of the Fraser and Nechako Rivers. We are surrounded by a vast
wilderness area that boasts many mountains, lakes & rivers. Serving
a region of well over a quarter of million people, and its own population
at about 80,000, the city calls itself "The Capital of Northern British
Columbia". Prince George offers the best of both worlds - outdoor adventure
in a wilderness setting - and all of the city amenities.
The forest industry dominates commercial activity here. Associated rail
and road transportation and service businesses together create a
powerful economic base. The city also serves as the regional center
for post-secondary education, health care and government services.
Prince
George is situated at the junction of two major highways - Yellowhead
#16 (East/West) and Highway #97 (North/South). We have a Transport Canada
Class "A" airport with regularly scheduled air services provided by Canadian
Airlines International and Air BC. Two major railways, as well as major
trucking lines accommodate the region. Greyhound Bus Lines provides daily
bus service.
About
Arabians in Canada...
Even though Canada occupies a land area that is slightly larger
than the United States, the U.S. has 10 times more people than Canada.
So, it is not surprising to find out that the US also has 10 times
more Arabian horses registered.
Of the 18 IAHA regions in North America (that's the US and Canada)
there are only two in Canada. Our club here in north-central BC,
which serves region 17 of the IAHA, covers a land area that is larger
than the states of Washington and Oregon combined.
Outside
of the metropolitan regions, the vast areas of undeveloped country allow
many Arabian horse owners in Canada to be spoiled by the beauty and abundance
of riding country. But on the other hand, it also becomes more expensive
and more difficult to participate in shows and other industry events.
It also means that there are fewer Equine professionals, like vets and
trainers, easily available to us.
